Hi! My name is Julie Fowler and I am a Junior at East Hall high school. Since the 6th grade, I have had the opportunity to take band and chorus. Although both present challenges, I loved the diversities in music and skills that band and chorus offered. Now as a junior in high school, I have grown as a musician through many honor choruses and honor bands, being the principle bassoon player in the wind sympathy, and being the vice president of the Tri-m music honor society chapter at my school. But through Honors Mentorship I have had the oppertunity to learn the roles a chorus teacher.
When I was accepted into the honors mentorship program, I knew that I wanted to intern with my middle school chorus teacher, Mrs. Allison. Through my mentorship, I have witnessed many 6th graders go from not being able to read music, to start reading music, and telling what the notes are and were they are located on the staff. The most amazing thing that I have saw through this experience, is watching students struggle with sight reading at the beginning of the year to becoming a strong sight singer. My mentor Mrs. Allison, has helped make this internship exciting for me and has helped me see the real meaning of a chorus teacher through playing the piano for the class, leading a vocal secession during class, making copies, and doing other basic office work. As of right know I love my mentorship!
